A Victorian button back arm chair, unfortunately
a simple wobble on a chair, whatever the age, can be
a big job. All upholstery has to come off, we totally
take apart the chair and reglue with fish glue. Then
upholstered as before.
Chairs get the most abuse out of all furniture so suffer
the biggest damage.
Remember the cheap set of chairs you buy which
are all loose can be a very expensive later!
This was a very fine late 17
century longcase clock, usual problems of veneer
and mouldings lifting.
The clock was make from olive wood with fine marquetry
decoration, not overworked and beautifully proportioned.
Bad split in the base which needed glue and replacement
of the missing marquetry.
The feet were a later addition which we changed to small
bun feet.
A clock like this is a joy to work on, wonderful craftsmanship
and a dream of early engineering.
The movements of clocks I sub contract to a specialist
to restore.
